Fascinating. I’ve felt the Tower coming down for a while. To see it compared with the fall of EU and Dutch is nuancing the subtle differences that have the same impact and outcome on society. We have never left the feudal system. Parliament and Senate run by the nobles, House of Commons and Congress to make the rules by the common man yet are corrupt and the only ones who make out are the Kings and Queens who never gave up their power and never will. The Magna Carta only lasted till King John could undo it.
Apologies for the late response. Your comment really got me thinking.
You're absolutely right. The feudal power structure never truly disappeared. It simply adapted. Whether through monarchy, nobility, or today’s political and corporate elites, the same dynamics persist. Those in power rarely relinquish it willingly.
History keeps repeating itself because, time and again, people trade freedom for security. The feudal system wasn’t imposed: it was accepted! In every era, from medieval lords offering protection to modern governments expanding control under the banner of "safety," we see the same pattern.
Perhaps the real question isn’t how elites manage to hold onto power, but why we keep making it so easy for them. If history is to change, doesn’t that start with us?
Absolutely! On Safety and freedom Ben Franklin said never trade Freedom for Safety. We had a closing in yoga every morning that ended with May all beings be happy and free. There was an older man, great friend with stage 4 cancer yet went to yoga 3 time a week. When he said his prayer he always said May all beings be happy and safe. He always said it this way and I approached him one day and told him that it was happy and free. He said it was the same thing. You can be happy and free but you can’t be safe and free.
